Waitrose New Products - June 2009

Waitrose introduces some fresh new dishes and great ideas to inspire you this summer.
Mahi Mahi

Waitrose has recently replaced swordfish with “mahi-mahi”, a fully sustainable white fish that breeds and matures quickly, enabling stocks to replenish more easily. Great for barbecues, Waitrose will be selling it from the fish counter with a red pepper marinade ready to go on the charcoal. Available from the end of June priced at £2.49 for 120g portion.

Teatime treats

Comforting afternoon tea is making a well-deserved comeback, and there are some new yummy cakes to enjoy with a nice relaxing brew.

Lardy Cake (£1.79) is a sweet and fruit loaf, topped with a crunchy baked sugar crust. Our is hand-made by a craft bakery, with creamy Cornish butter and juicy currants, sultanas and raisins. We sprinkle the tins with demerara sugar, so it melts to a syrupy sweetness in the oven, leaving a sticky sugar glaze.

Saffron Buns (£1.39 for 4) are traditionally served with butter or a generous dollop of indulgent clotted cream. Ours are slow-baked with Cornish butter, saffron, currants, sultanas and mixed peel.

For a delicious savoury option, why not try the next Light Rye Quarter (£1.89/500g) which comes in a handy pre-sliced quarter-sized pack. Its slightly chewy texture and rich flavour is glorious teamed with nectarines and blue cheese for a moreish snack.

Delicatezze

Following the success of the launch of the Waitrose Delicatezze range last year, eighteen delicious new dishes have been added, perfect for laid-back alfresco dining. This range has something for everyone, whether you enjoy food from Greece, Spain, France, Italy or Morocco.

If you fancy a nutritious, delicious snack why not try our selection of dips:
Allioli Dip: Allioli is a classic Catalonian garlic mayonnaise, made with crushed garlic and oil. Serve with fresh bread for a delectable snack or side dish, or use as a delicious accompaniment to grilled fish and shellfish.

Moroccan Carrot Dip: Traditional Moroccan spices of coriander, cumin and ginger are blended into a smooth, spicy-sweet carrot dip. Perfectly served with warm flat bread, as part of a mezze platter, or as a nutritious condiment for sandwiches.

Lebanese Muhammara (Red Pepper Dip): Made from a traditional Lebanese recipe using red pepper and breadcrumbs moistened with olive oil flavoured with chilli.

Having a get together? These dishes are great for sharing:
Chorizo & red pepper Croquetas: Smokey Spanish chorizo, pea and sweet red peppers with smoked paprika, fried in light crumb

Sweet Potato Falafel: Grated sweet potato bound with cumin spiced onions, vostizza currants, coriander and lemon zest.

Asparagus, Parmesan & Truffle Frittatas: Inspired by the classic oven-baked Italian omelette the fritatta can be eaten hot or cold.

Spinach and Feta Bourekia Pastries: Cypriot inspired savoury pastry filled with spinach, soft cheese, and Greek feta cheese with a hint of lemon and mint.

Spicy Meat Kofta: Minced lamb spiced with red chilli, garlic, lemon zest and ground roast cumin.

Deliciously Different

Inspired by cuisines from around the world, the new Deliciously Different salads are packed full of flavour whilst still being nutritionally balanced. Including influences from the Eastern Mediterranean and Asia, each salad contains as least one of your five a day, and can be enjoyed both hot and cold. The range includes:
